Kollam has brilliantly balanced traditions and modernity

Once known as 'Desinganadu', Kollam is a city located on the coastal region of the South Indian state, Kerala. It enjoyed a great reputation during the Phoenicians and Romans, as it was a major seaport during those times. Today, there are many hotels in Kollam city, as it has become an important travel destination over a period of time. As it borders the popular Ashtamudi Lake, plenty of tourists visit the region for its beautiful natural surroundings and enchanting backwaters.

There are many attractions in this part of the world, which would be of great interest for the travellers. Among them is Thangassery Light House, which was built in the year 1902. About five kilometres from the city is Thirumullavaram Beach, which is ideal for swimming. Located opposite Kollam Junction railway station is the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Police Museum, which is dedicated to the iron man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Kollam city is served by Trivandrum International Airport, which is of great convenience for air travellers in getting to the city. People who prefer trains can get to Kollam from the Kollam Junction railway station. The city is connected to all the major towns and cities by road, which benefits the road travellers.
